Savoury Protein Crackers

These savoury crackers are low in carbohydrates, high in protein, and perfect for snacking or as a crunchy addition to salads or soups.

  • 1 cup egg white protein powder
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Optional: additional herbs or spices of your choice for extra flavour (such as smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, or dried rosemary)

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the egg white protein powder, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir until the ingredients are evenly distributed.

  3. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously, until a dough forms. You may need slightly more or less water, so add it slowly to avoid making the dough too wet.

  4. Once the dough comes together, knead it gently with your hands until it forms a smooth ball.

  5.  Place the dough ball between two sheets of parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough until it's about 3mm thick. You can adjust the thickness to your preference for thinner or thicker crackers.

  6. Use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter to cut the rolled-out dough into squares or rectangles, depending on the shape you prefer. You can also use cookie cutters to make fun shapes if desired.

  7. Carefully transfer the cut crackers to the prepared baking sheet, leaving a small space between each one.

  8. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the crackers for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them towards the end of the baking time to prevent burning.

  9. Once baked, remove the crackers from the oven and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, they will become even crispier. Serve the crackers as a snack or alongside your favourite dips, spreads, or cheeses.
