NZ Protein's Meal Replacement Shake is a superfood blend and is a formulated meal or smoothie booster.
A formulated meal is a legal term for a product that contains not only protein but fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. This differs from a protein shake which just typically provides protein.
It can therefore be used at any time of the day to replace meals.
Ours is Better
Our Meal Replacement Shake (MRP) is of much higher quality than other MRPs available on the market because the ingredients used are better.
NZProtein's MRP contains quality protein from hemp, fats from cacao, nuts and seeds, and carbohydrates from green bananas.

Maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is cheap to produce and is often used as a filler in processed foods. It's higher on the glycemic index scale (GI) than regular sugar. It can spike blood sugar levels after consumption so may be useful after intensive exercise, but not during the day as a meal. |

Suggested Use
Mix three heaped scoops (50g) in 500ml of chilled water, milk or into a smoothie.
Depending on your nutritional requirements take 1-2 servings of NZPROTEIN Meal Replacement daily as meals. It can be used at any time of the day to replace meals. This product must not be used as a sole source of nutrition, or as a total diet replacement.
Please note that this product is processed in a facility that also handles milk, egg, soy, peanut, and gluten ingredients.

The flavour for myself is to artificial and to sweet, it has a kind of artificial synthetic banana syrup flavour that’s way to overpowering and hard to disguise with other added ingredients. It’s very similar to banana flavoured soft lollies, which means after a whole large glass of it it’s quite sickly.
Does it keep you full? No it doesn’t it’s basically the same as other standard meal replacement. Does it stop cravings? Yes I’d say it does for a while, maybe an hr but this is probably because it’s quite sickly.
I’ll finish the pack but I doubt I’ll order again. Delivery was as it says on the tin, delivered the next day with email updates. Excellent.

First time I've tried this product but as I've recently begun a Plant Based Diet due to some health issues I decided to try this Meal Replacement Shake and found it very good in helping me get my daily protein requirements, and its taste is great 😋

Pretty good flavour, I bought both but have only tried the banana so far. I think its a bit too sweet (partly because I'm sensitive to sweet flavours, partly because of the intensity of sucralose), I would love a lower sweetness option.
It keeps me full for longer, and doesn't upset my stomach the way a lot of others do.
The texture is nice and smooth and the powder dissolves quickly without clumping, but I do always blend mine.

Quite bitty and tastes really artificial. Otherwise it would have been a really nice flavour
Tried both flavours. Banana flavour is good, it has that artificial banana flavouring taste to it but it's not overpowering, has the same consistency as a smoothie. Raspberry was OK but the flavour was very strong and it tastes very strongly of artificial sweetener with a strong aftertaste that I'm not a fan of but it would be OK you don't mind the sweetener taste. The aftertaste goes away with a swig of water and doesn't hang around for ages. Goes a bit gloopy if you leave it sitting for a while so I would recommend drinking it straight away.
I love the taste as long as I have it with *coconut water* - Coconut water makes it delicious! I tried with plain water or soy milk and wasn't a fan. It mixes really well in my shaker. The only drawback I've noticed is it doesn't keep me as full for as long as the plant based proteins do.
Overall it's a win for me and I will be buying again.

I like the meal replacement but it would be nice if you had vanilla and chocolate flavour.

I like the taste and texture, easy and hassle free as I hate cooking. Definitely satisfying as a meal replacement option.

but both times i had it i couldnt finish the serving as it started to make me feel ill and naseous . first time i gave it benefit of the doubt in case it was something else making me ill but it happened again the second time so sadly i wont be able to finish the bag i bought.

Rating this 5 stars because it's the most affordable vegi/lactose free meal replacement. Very tummy friendly! It's cheaper than FastFX and won't blow you up like a balloon like OpitSlim can. Easy cleanup and mixes fine in a shaker. Love that it has more potassium than others too. If I could improve anything, I would use a less intense sweetener (perhaps ethritol?) and I would add some additional micros like biotin and selenium.
The choc banana flavour was nice, but way too sweet. It was fine when used in lower quantities than directed, but I'd prefer to be able to mix more in. Slight grittiness, but texture was decent. I'd be happy to buy a version of this with little (or preferably zero) artificial sweetener. For now I think I'll stick to maltodextrin versions for higher calorie intake and because they're not as sweet.
Don't like the flavor or gritty texture, but it does keep me going until lunchtime.
Great Tasting and very fulfilling
Bought this for hubby, he loves it. Can really taste the raspberry in it. I find it quite sweet but that’s just me. Pleased the nibs have been ground down although my blender would deal to that anyway.
Swapping meals with this at night after training, cuts down lots on prep time, doesn't make me feel heavy afterwards and at night and it is still quite filling.
Excellent product. Banana Choc Nib and Raspberry Cacao are great flavors. Both mix well using the Wave XL Shaker. Add about 350ml of ice cold water, then 3 level scoops of meal replacement and shake well for at least 30 to 45 seconds. Add more water until the 600ml level. I use mine with a extra 2 level scoops of NZ Protein WHEY ISOLATE as part of a nutrition program for strength training. Taken twice daily, this meal replacement has helped me to achieve a lose fat and build muscle training program with excellent results. Highly recommended. Will buy again.
Not nice after taste. It tastes sickly sweet and like it is some kind of artificial sweetener? I definitely won't be ordering it again. The texture is perfect but the flavour I ordered (Raspberry Cacao) is not nice. Awesome quick dispatch and delivery as always from the team at NZ Protein!
Flavour is great but when made in a shaker the consistency is a little gritty
Purchased a sample of the new Raspberry Cacoa flavour to try, think it’s the top choice of the two. It does a pretty good job of flavouring this blend. Being a meal replacement shake, don’t go thinking it will be like a regular whey protein shake… it’s more chalky and grainy in texture given that it’s hemp based with *loads* of extras packed in to it!

Actually tastes pretty amazing and fills me up when I can't eat. Grounding down the nibs was a great decision as that was the only major downside to the banana one I've bought before and never finished because it was impossible to drink with the nibs getting stuck in my throat. Three scoops with milk and a quick blast in a smoothie blender is perfect, fills me right up for at least a few hours.
The price could be a little more reasonable, but all things considered it's not too bad and is still worth it. If it were more reasonable I'd probably buy a lot more and stock up on it as it would make a great TEOTWAWKI supply.

It's grainy and a bit too sweet. Maybe the 5th time I had this it rinsed me out both ends. Just tried it again and thew it up 4 hrs after drinking. Will not be finishing the packet.
Goes great with a handful of mixed nuts to fill me up for quick lunch on the go

the flavour is good. there were some comments in the reviews about the nibs being too coarse but that seems to have been fixed. I dissolve the powder in boiling water and then add cold water and ice to chill it before drinking. I mix with 350mL of water in total and it seems good.
Taste is okay-ish when you use a lot more water then recommended (700ml). Also the powder isn´t dissolving completely.

Grainy texture and strong artificial sweetener aftertaste. I much prefer the Qota/aussielent meal replacements as they feel less artificial even though they have a plainer taste. NZPROTEIN REPLY: as ours is a superfood blend it is more difficult than a milk and maltodextrin product. By comparison to that product ours has no maltodextrin (sugar), no milk, no soy, and no gluten.
I initially thought I missed the choc nibs from the old flavour but this variation has grown on me and I certainly haven't tired of it. If I take it around 7.30 after a workout it'll easily get me through to dinner. Great stuff.
The cocao nibs are ground down in this batch and are eminently palatable. And the mix is not overly sweet, so it’s easy to drink. Does what it says on the tin – a useful addition to my diet.
It does the job but Im not convinced about the flavour. Its not sure if it wants to be a banana flavour or a chocolate flavour. Shaker struggles to mix it but fine in the blender.

Was sceptical from the mixed range of reviews but it looked like the best option on the market so I went through with it. The flavour is great for what is packed into the product nutritionally, slightly grainy which I personally don't mind, it reminds me of a nutty smoothie from Tank. I only used shakers and it didn't have any clumps but a blender would probably be better for reducing the graininess if that ain't you. Highly recommended.

Had read the reviews previously before purchasing a sample to try…but in contrast, I can’t really fault this. For everything that’s been packed into the product, I think the flavour balance is great. Not sweet, nor bitter. I had the reformulated batch so the nibs had been ground down. Found it pleasant and filling :)
Fulfills my particular nutrition requirements, tastes good (another brand I used tasted like chemicals!), I like the crunchy nibs (If you want them softer, just leave the drink standing for a while).
Honestly I think the nutrition is a good mix. I like the choice of ingredients, I like that I'm not allergic to anything in it. I like the banana powder from a nutritional standpoint. But those chocolate nibs are brutal. They make sense from a nutritional standpoint. But it seems that the manufacturer threw in factory mass produced chocolate nibs without adjusting them for the end product. It would be fine if they were smaller. I bought this product because I had a lot of deadlines coming up and needed a meal replacement. But then I got covid and during my recovery my throat is so sensitive I can't eat solid food. I can't consume this product at the moment because the chocolate nibs are so huge that even when I chew them I can't swallow them without coughing up a lung. I am going to need to buy a different meal replacement to consume until I recover. The chocolate nibs are a good nutritional choice but they need to be a lot smaller.
And it would be great to have different flavours. With the banana powder it makes sense that they'll all be banana themed. But something like powdered peanut butter would be a good addition. Or if you're going for low allergy, powdered sunflower seed butter. Banana cookies and cream. There are a ton of banana desserts to choose from when it comes to flavours, just as a brainstorm suggestion.

Has some great nutrients, and does fill me up okay, but I can't get past the flavour. Not my cup tea! The banana flavour is very strong and sweet
I love this meal replacement, I also add favs bean protein powder to it… yum!
I appreciate that all palates are different, so some might enjoy this meal replacement, but I do not. It has a strong over sweet aftertaste and the chocolate chips don't go down very well. When a new flavor is available I'll def give it a try.
I ordered 2 Banana and Chocolate Nib sample packets, I tried one mixed with almond milk and one with water both. I found the banana flavour to be pleasant and the shake does fill me up. But as almost every other review states the chocolate nibs are a struggle. They are very bitter and unpleasant tasting.
I do look forward to trying different flavours and would definitely consider buying a banana flavoured shake if the cacao nibs were not present.

Good quality shake with great nutritional value. However, the chocolate bits are not my favourite and make it a bit annoying to clean my shaker.

I have been adding this to my soaked overnight oats and it tastes delicious, I have just added water in a shaker bottle but prefer it with oats and soaked as the coco nibs soften.
Since I can't get myself to eat a proper breakfast early in the morning, I was looking for a liquid alternative. I have been using this meal replacement for a couple of weeks now and I'm absolutely loving it!!!

Both super sour and bitter at the same time. I really wanted to like it, but it was like battery acid with floaty chunks of super bitter cacao. Tried different concentrations, tried letting it sit in the fridge. Just had to tip it all out in the end.
Excellent product but the chunks of cocoa nib are a bit hard to get down the throat. Easily solved by adding half the water and blending it. Works great when used as a smoothie filler
well i gotta say i actually really like this meal replacement shake .. i especially love the little bits of nibs .. im replacing breakfast with this and it keeps me full right upto my next meal .. good stuff nz protein 😁😁

This product is a superfood mix with heaps of good ingredients. However, superfood mixes don't generally taste as good as milk based mixes (per our description on the product page).
It's a great meal replacement shake! Covers all the nutrients your body needs. I dont feel hungry for a couple hours. Great.

Rating is for the product taste/blend. The Cacau nibs need to be blended properly. Nearly impossible to drink the shake, otherwise. Nutritional content is EXCELLENT…5-stars! And can we please bring back the “Toffee” flavour. It was a fantastic blend.
Tastes better if made with only 250/300mls chilled water rather than the 500mls recommended. Blend on high speed to break those hard nibs down. I now love it!!!!!

Like most of the other reviews, the cocoa nibs are very off putting. I get that they are a super food, but it's very hard to get this drink down as is. The banana flavor is good, but I don't know anyone who wants to chew their drink. That being said, I now put it in the blender with a little water, and it's much more pleasent to drink. I just wish it would come with the cocoa nibs already crushed down, so I wouldn't have to go through the extra trouble to make it palatable.
The protein is nice and feels clean however the black bits that are meant to be some type of chocolate taste like dirt, it would be better if there weren't any of them in the powder but overall it was good.

I have been purchasing your protein powders for well over a decade on and off now and have always enjoyed them. The only downfall to the flavour I purchased this time is that there are chocolate chips and the mixture which I don’t really like to chew on while eating a smoothie or just mixing this with milk. I usually purchase vanilla because it is an easy all-rounder to add with not much flavour change to fruit or other ingredients. But couldn’t find this option this time round

Well it is the best protein meal replacement except the carob needs to be ground because the nibs will break your tears. The best recipe is mix with some coconut milky and water. Add the collagen if you need it. Blend 1 scoop is enough for 1 cup easy.
My brother recommended nzprotein to my mum and I and we both recently tried the banana choc nib flavoured meal replacement powder in some oat porridge with some plain coconut yoghurt, mixed berries, and some barista oat milk, and even with these other ingredients, we could still taste the banana and choc nibs flavour, and for us, when it comes to adding a protein powder or having a meal replacement powder in general, it has to be packed full of flavour, or else it just won't work for us long term.
Instead of using the protein powders and meal replacement powders in shakes, we instead use them mainly in our oat breakfasts and cereals, and it's honestly so good, not only as a flavour enhancer to the meal, but to get in that extra protein to feel fuller for longer, and eat less, as a result.

Really nice to have a vegan protein option - and you don't have to separately buy soy/other milks for the carb component. Tastes surprisingly good, goes down easily.
Mine just arrived and I love it! I also live rurally and shipping was extremely fast. Tastes just like a banana milkshake, I enjoy cacao too so I like the extra little crunch to it. I’d recommend mixing it with almond milk or oat milk. First time purchasing from NZ protein too so I’ll definitely be a repeating customer
Great mixability, taste and satiety, my only gripe is the cacao nibs shouldn't have been added. Not a fan of chewing my protein shakes :)
Really happy with this product. Found it easy to mix, isn't overly grainy, and the flavour is exactly what you'd expect given the ingredients. I personally like the flavour and crunch of the nibs. I feel like anyone who is disappointed with this product is expecting it to be like the other types that have 20+ ingredients in them to make them taste like milkshakes. Sure, those are tasty, but this one is way less processed and better for your gut in the long run.
By far the most filling meal replacement shake I have ever had and tastes so good too. Love it!

I love the banana flavour and enjoy the crunch of the cacao nibs. Great to keep a portion on hand, with milk powder added then ready just to mix with water anywhere any time. My fussy daughter loved it too.

I would avoid this product. Very average taste, doesn't dissolve well and you'll choke on a layer of random peanut chunks that float on the top every time you take a sip. NZPROTEIN REPLY: we're sorry you don't like the taste, it is plant based. The chunks are cacao nibs - there are no peanuts.
Must be blended into a smoothie. Too gritty just mixed into water. Blended with a banana, berries and whatever else it makes for a great quick and easy meal replacement.
Banana / cacao flavour is great, love the cacao crunch factor, real ingredients and mixes fine in their hand shaker - I'm using it functionally, I'm not after fine cuisine
Excellent product. Perfect to replace a meal when your busy and keeps me satisfied and energised for a solid few hours. Definitely recommend it and will be buying it regularly from now on.

I was reluctant to try this given some negative reviews. However after trying it l really can't understand what the fuse is all about. Blends easily, (in a nutri bullet) taste better than ok, but the main advantage is the natural formula. I would recommend it as a meal on the go. I could understand that mixed with water in a hand shaker results would not be great. It also loses a star due there is no choice in flavours.

I like this, it's filling enough that I can successfully replace lunch at work without feeling too hard done by. I'm not 100% sold on the flavour though so dropped a star. It's drinkable but not something I would actively choose
It would be awesome to have a selection of flavours in this range so I could cycle through them, at the moment I feel like by the end of the bag I'm never going to want to see another green banana as long as I live ;-)

I really didn’t enjoy the choc chips in the protein shake, don’t taste like chocolate at all and they’re so hard…. They ruined the whole shake for me. NZPROTEIN REPLY: they're cacao nibs. They're a superfood but are bitter by nature.
Product tastes pretty average but is very filling and helps me on night shift stops me from massively over eating
LOVE THIS COMPANY!!!! Always professional with the best products and free gifts :). I only buy from this company as I think you have the best flavour profiles. Unfortunately I wasn't a big fan of this specific product and the flavour. Excellent product as always just found that the taste it left in my mouth wasn't great. I decided to go back to my whey protein. Anyways...I'll keep on testing new products and love the work you are doing. Keep it up.

Surprisingly yum! The banana taste is quite subtle and natural, and I actually really like the crunch of the cacao nibs - kinda like eating sprinkles. It's definitely a thumbs up so far.
Have been having this for breakfast for months as "nutritional insurance". Great flavour and everything you need!

I've been struggling to eat enough due to new medication suppressing my appetite, and a lot of the common meal replacements aren't vegan, so finding this has been really helpful for me! It's pretty tasty and has a good range of stuff in it which helps me get what I need

I mix the NZ protein green super blend product in (just pour it straight into the bag and shake to mix the powders) have actually found it improves the flavour and makes it that much more nutritious and is a super convenient way to supplement my green veggie intake.
As a vegan the ingredients are ideal with the hemp protein and LSA providing essential fatty acids I would usually get by supplementing my shakes with linseed oil in absence of fish in my diet.
If convenience and nutrition trump taste this is definitely the product for you. If you’re looking for low quality but tasty I suggest another brand.

This is my second order, after reading the other reviews I have to say the cacao nibs are the best bit about the shake. Love chewing them! The banana flavour is subtle. Filling but good on the gut.
Overnight delivery - super quick. Expected to be ready to add something to this to improve the taste but I love it just with water! Will be my new go-to and will be ordering again :)
Great health benefits of this shake! And no upset stomach! Taste can improve, though. The chocolate nibs need to be grounded so it doesn’t get stuck in the throat. Plus, this needs to show health star rating, which would be ideal.
I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty these meal replacements are. I am allergic to animal milks and so I need to carefully select anything that I ingest. I have tried brands across the pricing spectrum and this by far is the best, and is a very cost effective option. There's no weird texture or after taste, it's just yummy. Shipping is lightning speed too. I ordered it on my lunch break one day and the next day when I got home it had arrived. I highly recommend this product.
Been using the shake for a few weeks now, replacing one meal per day. Sufficient as a meal replacement. I like the vanilla flavour, but the chocolate nibs not really that great. (swallow it without chewing is the best option). I would love the shake without the nibs or even a chocolate shake but it does what I bought it for, so happy with the product.
Had to get used to the taste at first but love it now. Fills me up at breakfast. Great value at this price.

The only thing that really is bad is the chocolate ships.
When drinking from a bottle they can get stuck and is very unpleasant to drink and stop to bit them.
Please jus add Choco powder and remove the chips.

Excellent product, very nice tasting, easy to digest, doesn’t give you gas. I really like the cacao nibs they make this product something special and I look forward to the shake because of this great little ingredient. I will definitely buy this again.
I have tried so many protein/meal replacement shakes and they are grainy and disgusting and I give up on them. This one is genuinely nice! It's a vegan protein miracle!
Really not my thing. I retried a number of times, mixing it with other stuff but I cannot appreciate it. I could force myself past the banana-ish flavour but I dislike the cacao nibs. I tried to pass on to friends but haven't found any of them keen to accept the free offer I'm willing to make them, so I'm afraid I'll have to cut my losses on this purchase. I do love other NZ Protein products but not this one. I would probably try again if unflavoured and without those nibs.
Don't waste your money, extremly disappointed. The only reason I gave a 2 and not a 1 was the banana flavour when you can taste it is actually nice but the nibs completely ruin it and make it inedible for me without gagging on the flavour. I tried to sieve out the nibs but it managed to make the nib flavour more potent unfortunately. Take out the nibs and I would purchase again though. NZPROTEIN REPLY: cacao nibs are a bit bitter but are a superfood!
It is a satisfying meal replacement. Mixes well in a shaker. I like the banana flavour and the crunch of the cacoa nibs.

Not bad. It's filling, tasty, everything it needs to be. The banana nibs aren't my favourite, though - I'd have left those out or blended them up (though you can still do that yourself).

What attracted me to this product was the quality ingredients and amount of Protein per serve.
I like to have this most mornings along with Eggs on toast, I add half a banana and it tastes superb.
Keeps me full for longer and a great kick start to by day.

I like the flavor and the meal replacement don't make me feel too hungry during the day. I would like to see other flavors though. I did find really nice to receive an hand written thank you note with the parcel.
I have been using your protein powder for a few years now and had never tired the meal replacement before. I was looking for something for when you are busy and on the go and reach that 'I am starving but there's nothing healthy to eat' scenario. And..... this product hits that spot perfectly. I dont know if it is coincidence or not but I had a shake for supper and the next morning my 5.30am workout I was on point and had a lot more energy. This shake tastes nice, fills a gap and mixes well with oats in blender etc ...

Due to finding out that I have become lactose and gluten intolerant and a result of pancreatic cancer I need a breakfast replacement. Mixed with fruit in a smoothie works
Tastes pretty good and is filling. If I could change anything it would be the packaging, it's a bit of a messy job getting the powder out, especially when it's running low, and it would be great if it was able to be recycled here, or else was biodegradable.
Initially thought the flavour was average. 3 heaped with water. Next day tried it with milk, some frozen berries, and a vitamin C tablet, no issues at all. Only 4 stars as I agree with other posts, could be more flavours.
I was a little hesitant about the flavour as I don’t particularly like banana flavoured things but it’s actually really nice! I like the cacao nibs, the variety in texture is nice. I hope they are able to add other flavours to the range soon. I will still buy this one as well but it would be nice to mix it up sometimes. The powder mixes well in a regular shaker. I do wish it was a little thicker but also appreciate that it’s not full of fillers to achieve that.
It pains me to write this as I love your protein powders, but this Meal Replacement Shake is hideous!!! The cacao nibs are disgusting, and about an hour after I drank it, I threw it up :-( I wasn't ill in any other way, once my body purged it I was fine. I am so disappointed, as it worked out a lot cheaper than other MR shakes.
I found the meal replacement great, my only concern is that it only comes in 1 flavour. Please give us additional flavors as this stuff is great. Would certainly recommend to my friends if the flavour range was larger.

Personally I really hate flavour of vegan protein powders. So I was sceptical. However I need a simple replacement that is lower in carbs and also fats ( pancreas malfunction). This ticked all the boxes. Really, really filling, amazing flavour and texture :)
Great meal replacement, I like the crunchy nibs, fills me up for a good 2-3 hours at lunch until my next snack. Would love to see more flavours

I have struggled to find a protein that I can enjoy as well as consuming multiple healthy nutrients, in a protein shake! I struggle with IBS and am dairy intolerant, this protein only made me feel better, more active and alive ! Flavour is great ! Also works well as an ice cream with frozen bananas. Would highly recommend! Please bring out more flavours ! NZPROTEIN REPLY: thank you! We'll consider more flavours in future if demand grows. Note that due to the superfoods in this product the flavours don't all work and can be a bit limited.
I like the cacao in it and grain texture. I prefer a ripe tasting banana to the green banana. I found the green taste rather strong. Excellent communication and quick delivery! Especially to rural address.
I really like the taste, some may be put off by the texture (crunchy bits), but on the whole I was impressed.
